Tattoo Aftercare on Koh Phi Phi

A new tattoo on a tropical island needs a little extra care: sun, sea and sweat. Follow these steps for about two weeks and it will heal clean and sharp.

01

The first hours

Keep the wrap on as long as Bus tells you. Then wash gently with clean water and mild soap, and pat dry with a clean paper towel.

Days 1 to 14

Wash two or three times a day and apply a very thin layer of fragrance-free tattoo balm. Do not scratch or pick: light peeling is normal.

03

Stay out of the water

No sea, no pool, no snorkeling or diving until it has healed, about two weeks. Salt water and bacteria are the main risk on an island.

Hide from the sun

Keep it covered with loose clothes or stay in the shade. No sunscreen on a fresh tattoo; once healed, use a high SPF so the lines stay sharp for years.

05

Sweat, sand and sleep

Rinse gently after sweating, keep sand away from it and sleep on clean sheets.

06

When to ask for help

Some redness and tenderness for a few days is normal. If it gets hot, very swollen or you get a fever, see a doctor: World Med hospital is right next to the shop. You can also come and show it to Bus.
